Yee Jee Tso

Yee Jee (pronounced “yē-jē”) or “YJ” was born in Hong Kong and emigrated to Canada when he was 6 months old. He grew up in a predominately Jewish neighbourhood, and quickly learned to appreciate Challah and Matzah Ball soup. His love of acting grew from watching “Saturday Night Live” and “Monty Python” in his friend’s basement. His high school drama teacher Mike Denos imbued strong fundamentals in the budding performer, but warned, “If there’s anything else you can do and be happy—do that.” As a result, Yee Jee also has a myriad of other professional endeavours, including software engineering, music production, and writing. He's also a proud Dad.

YJ began his acting career at the age of fifteen, with a recurring role in the TV series Fifteen (aka “Hillside”) starring Ryan Reynolds. Over the years, Yee Jee has accumulated over 70 professional film, TV, voice-over and stage credits.

Recently he worked with Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs and a wonderfully talented ensemble cast on Snowpiercer. Previously, YJ appeared with Oscar winner Anjelica Huston and Joseph Gordon Levitt in “50/50”. YJ is probably best known for his portrayal of Chang Lee in the '96 FOX/BBC/Universal TV movie “Doctor Who”.

In the sci-fi genre, Yee Jee's roles include:

• Nick Yang, a lead role on “Smallville: Vengeance Chronicles”,
• Jared Chan, supporting Natasha Henstridge in the sci-fi thriller TV movie “Impact”,
• a recurring role on “Stargate: Atlantis”,
• the recurring role Wing on “Sliders”,
• and guest appearances on “Arrow”, “The 100”, “Travelers”, “Stargate SG1”, and “Continuum”.

Other legacy roles include:

• a counter-culture computer genius, opposite Ryan Phillipe and Oscar winner Tim Robbins in the MGM feature film “AntiTrust”,
• a comedically evil gangster Kea, opposite Henry Winkler, in the National Lampoon comedy “Dad’s Week Off”,
• a child-devouring monster in the horror film “They Wait”, featured at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival,
• recurring roles on both sides of the law, in three award winning crime series: “Da Vinci’s Inquest”, “Da Vinci’s: City Hall” and “Intelligence”,
• a series regular for two seasons, on the award-winning Canadian teen drama “Madison”,
• and guest appearances in dozens of other films and TV shows.
